Start Your Day Off Right

Have you ever noticed how incredibly important it is to start your day off on the right foot?  If we start the day feeling depressed, nervous, angry or afraid, it often infects and negatively colors our entire day.

So what can we do to help start us off on the right foot?  Or if we notice that we are upset, how can we get ourselves back on the right track?

Well there are any number of things we can do.  Here are a few which should help you take control of your mornings:

1. Think of Someone You Love

Sitting and thinking about someone we love is a great way to put us into a happy and positive state of mind.  Imagine their face and see them smile.  Recall what it is that you love so much about this person.  How does it feel to have them in your life?

2. Think of Something You Love

In the same way, think about something that is a part of your life that really makes you feel good.  Perhaps it is something you own, like your favorite outfit, a car, a meaningful gift, something made by a loved one, something which reminds you of a wonderful experience in your life, an award or trophy or something which you worked really hard to earn.

3. Recall a Great Experience

Remember something that happened to you, at any time in your life, that really felt good.  Close your eyes and remember what it felt like to be there.  Who was there with you?  Why was it such a special moment?  How did it feel?

4. List off Everything You are Grateful For

This can be an incredibly powerful exercise and can really put things in perspective for you.  Simply listing off everything you have to be grateful for can transform your day and train your brain to think more positively and notice the beauty around you.  Do you have a roof over your head?  Can you read and write?  What freedoms do you enjoy that most of those in history did not?  Look around at all the conveniences you enjoy and imagine all the people who devoted their lives and energies so that you may enjoy them today.  How great is it that you don't have to mine the salt for your food all by yourself?  You don't have to understand how to create a computer or the internet or even understand how they work to enjoy them.  You are one of a small fraction of those in history who are still alive!

5. Take a Few Deep Breaths

Study after study shows how incredibly beneficial it can be to do this very simple and easy thing.  Take a few deep breaths and you will increase the oxygen in your blood and brain, improve your brain functioning, improve your immune system's functioning and energize yourself as well.

6. Dance

Again, it sounds so simple and easy, yet this should require no explanation.  In the immortal words of Bob Marley, "One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain."  Music moves the soul and the body, so let it move you and your morning will start off full of joy.

7. Think About Things You Are Excited For

Ask yourself, "What am I excited about?"  And when you think of an answer, then ask yourself, "And how does that make me feel?"  Really allow yourself to feel the excitement.  Then repeat as much as possible until you are so excited you can barely sit still!
